We get asked lots of questions about Amboina Kings, here are some of the most
frequently asked ones along with the answers.
1) How much do they cost?
My hand fed babies are $550.00
2) How big are they?
Amboina's are 17 to 22 inches in length from top of
head to tip of tail.
3) Are they good family birds or one person birds?
They will typically interact with all family
members. All family members need to stay consistent
about training.
4) How noisy are they?
Amboina's are quiet birds. Their
voices are soft, they don't squawk or "call out to the flock" in
the morning and evening. They do
have an alarm call but it's not used very often. If they are
using it something is very
wrong. This call is louder than normal but is deep throated.
5) Do they talk?
They have the ability to talk and can
learn to talk quite well. They are intelligent birds and learn
to use words and phrases in
context. They have low voices and the voices don't carry across the
room or reverberate off the
walls like some other species do.
6) Can you tell me more about their personality?
Amboina's aren't your cuddly type of bird like
a cockatoo is. They are very independent birds.
They like to be with you, just not
necessarily "on" you all the time. They love to be where the
action is, love to share a meal
with you, and they like to play. They don't enjoy a "head skritch"
but do like "one on one"
time. They like to make eye contact with you while you talk to them,
it's as though they understand what you are
saying.
7) Does a male or female make a better companion bird?
Sandy is a male and my only companion
Amboina. Because of their personalities and what my
customers have said I'd
say both make excellent companions.
8) Do the females look different than the males?
Not with Amboina Kings, the males and
females are colored the same.
9) Are they bad about chewing up your woodwork?
No, they aren't avid chewer's so your
woodwork is safe with them. <g>
10) What size cage would you recommend?
The minimum size I would recommend is 24 inches wide by 22-24
inches deep. They have to
have room to turn around with their long tails. They can do
that in this size cage but they need
"out" time. Wider is better of course, height
varies by manufacturer and isn't as important as width
and depth. Very young birds are rough on their
tails, they have to learn to live with them. After the
first molt or two they figure it out and have
beautiful tails after that.
11) Do they get along with other birds?
They get along with birds of different species, they
don't get along well with other King parrots.
12) What kind of toys do they like?
They enjoy toys made for conure sized birds.
13) Do you ship?
Yes I do ship through the airlines at the
buyer's expense.
14) What kind of health guarantee do you give?
I guarantee my birds for three days.
I recommend buyers get a "well bird" check up with an
avian vet during this
time. This guarantee's and protects both the buyer and seller. To date I
have had no problems with the
babies I sell.
If you have a question I haven't covered
here please email me.
