About us:
Billy and Julie Caldwell
We have been married 23 years and have four beautiful
children.
I have been a life long parishioner at St. Paschal. Billy
converted to Catholicism in 2003.
We started our journey in youth ministry in September,
2000. We began with the middle aged youth and now work with the high school
youth. What an adventure youth ministry has been. I would like to share with you
some of the lessons we have learned over the past eight years:
- You can have a full time job, multiple children, a
spouse that is not Catholic and still work in this ministry
- You can request training for this ministry and request
for the DRE and/or Priest to fire you if not doing an acceptable job
- With the help of family and friends to babysit, you
can attend 8 classes on the weekends over 2 years to receive your
certificate in youth ministry. Don’t wait till the last minute to do your
assignments!
- Decide what teaching guide you want to follow prior to
asking the youth. Reviewing the entire bible doesn’t always move at a quick
enough pace for them.
- Learn to delegate. Tap into your parents. They are a
great help.
- I can rattle the recipe for the chili sale off the top
of my head
- You always need a splitter for a car wash and make
sure you have adults at the end of the hoses.
- You can bake 200 king cakes from scratch and have them
ready for delivery in 5 hours or less.
- Even with close supervision and multiple chaperones,
you may still end up with one pair of frozen boxers at an overnight retreat.
- If the band playing at a retreat for you is playing
for a love offering and food, they can consume large amounts of food.
- I can canoe. It takes 3-4 hours to make it down the
river. I whined the last hour, but I made it! I even made it the second year
in the same canoe with my husband.
- Magic Springs is great for a fun trip. There is water
and rides.
- You will not see Billy Caldwell in shorts in a canoe
or at Magic Springs!
- You can worship with 5,000 other youth at the
Steubenville conference or 25,000 youth from all over the country at the
national youth conference.
- You can plan a memorial service for a member of your
youth group as painful as that can be and witness the beautiful gift of
youth ministering to youth
- Flexibility, flexibility, and more flexibility.
- Always make time for some fun
Thank you for allowing us to
spend time with your children. Thank you church, for your support of youth
ministry. Thanks to the feed the youth teams. Spend some time with our youth,
they are awesome!!!
Peace,
Billy and Julie Caldwell
