Submitting Papers via Turnitin [###]
ENGL ####
Your papers and take-home exam must be submitted via Turnitin, a web-based service that allows me to evaluate and return your work electronically. All papers will be run through Turnitin’s plagiarism prevention program prior to my evaluation of them. As I note in the syllabus, students who submit fully or partially plagiarized papers will be assigned the grade of “F” for the course.
It is your responsibility to register with Turnitin. Please do so immediately: you need to be familiar with the program in advance of your first submission. I bear no responsibility for your use of Turnitin; I insist only that your papers reach me via that program by the specified deadlines.
To get started:
U Visit the Turnitin site at turnitin.com
U Call up the Student User Guide (Training Materials º User Manuals º Student User Guide)
U Familiarize yourself with the following sections of the Guide:
T Chapter 1: Getting Started
T Chapter 2: Plagiarism Prevention
T Chapter 4: GradeMark™
As Chapter 1 will explain, first-time users must create a user profile. To do this, select “create a user profile” on the Turnitin homepage. In order to complete this task, you will need the following information:
U Class ID: 1767981
U Enrollment Password: 3430
If you already have a Turnitin account, you need only log in and add this course, using the course and section numbers and the Class ID and Enrollment Password. This, too, is explained in Chapter 1 of the Student User Guide.
Graded papers will be returned to students via the e-mail address that they use to register with Turnitin.
I do not use Turnitin’s GradeBook™ feature for recording and reporting grades. A running account of your grades will be posted on my website after each quiz, for which see the syllabus.
