BAYLESS-SAYLER HOUSE
The Barry County Genealogical and Historical Society purchased the Bayless-Sayler House in the spring of 2000 to save it form condemnation and from being torn down by the city due to its condition. We knew at the time it was going to take a great deal of work and money to make it where it could be used. Our gold at that time was and is to restore as much as possible to the original but also to make it functional for modern use. The original use was a single family home but it was later converted to apartments. We are putting windows and doors on the outside back where they were originally and on the inside as much as possible the rooms will be where the were. We also are trying to make most rooms handicapped accessible. The Barry County Genealogical and Historical Society plans to use the house for a meeting place, research library and to display furniture and artifacts of that area (1800, early 1900’s) As for public use it has been discussed that with consent it could be used by other groups or individuals for meetings, receptions, etc. We hope with your help we can make our dreams come true.
