- Use floors with
care for the first Two (2) weeks after finish. You can walk on the
floor the next day, but we recommend that NO furniture be put into
the room for Two (2) to Three (3) days. No rugs or water should be
used on floors during the first Eight (8) weeks. Allow additional
air flow across the surfaces such as open windows or fans to help
the floor finish faster.
- Wipe up food
and other spills immediately using a dampened cloth or paper towel.
Regular cleaning should be done with ONLY vinegar and water.
Floors should NEVER be waxed. If wax is applied, it will be impossible
to recoat. Sweep or use an untreated dust mop on your floor regularly.
This will keep the sand and grit off your floor which may cause premature
wear.
- Check chair legs
and other pieces of furniture to be sure they all have rubber wheels
or felt pads attached to them. This will allow chairs to glide over
the floor without scuffing the surface. You may also purchase quality
felt pads from Harris Custom Wood Floors.
- Keep high heel
shoes in good repair, heels that may have lost their protective caps,
can cause little indentations in any floor surface, even concrete!
- As your floor
begins to show wear, and does not clean easily with vinegar and water
recoating is recommended. An average family will need one new coat
approximately every Five (5) years.
- With the onset
of winter, cracks between the boards may appear which is normal.
This time of the year, the heating causes the interior air to dry
out and the lower relative humidity in the house causes the wood to
shrink. Spring will return the humidity in the house to normal and
the cracks between the boards will disappear. A centrally located
humidifier may help.
- It is recommended
that food be removed from the house to avoid absorption of odors.
Due to these odors, you may wish to stay outside from the house until
the refinishing is complete.
- All Gas appliances
must be turned off. This is the Customers responsibility.
- Due to working
so close to walls and trim, some scuffing is possible.
- 220 power outlet
is needed for sanding (Electric stove, dryer or main power box).
