Subject: He Arose and He Lives

Dear Ones,

Last weekend, my family, along with most people of the Christian faith, celebrated Good Friday and Easter Sunday. These Holy days are celebrated by Christians in the belief that Jesus Christ of Nazareth was executed by crucifixion on a Friday by an occupying Roman Army, was buried by Joseph of Arimathea in a tomb carved in rock and on the third day, Sunday, rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven.

Along with these religious beliefs other non-religious traditions have become part of the Easter holiday celebration, namely the arrival of the Easter Bunny and the decoration and hiding of Easter eggs for the children to hunt and find.

On Good Friday, our four year-old granddaughter came to visit. At the time, she was not overly concerned with the pending arrival of the Easter Bunny or with hunting and finding the Easter eggs her and mother and she had dyed the night before. Instead, she excitedly wanted to tell me about what she had learned in school (she attends pre-school at Parkview Baptist High School in the city where she lives). She wanted to tell me all about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus... "Paw Paw, you know what those bad people did to Jesus. They nailed Him to a cross... they put a crown of thorns on His head... they gave Him something bitter to drink... and then He died. After He died, He rose from the grave and went to live with God in Heaven." After she finished telling her story, I remarked, "You are absolutely right... and if you be a good girl, you will get to see Jesus in Heaven one day."

Perhaps I was a bit too simplistic in what I said to her. What I really want her to know as she lives out her life is this-- Jesus died on the cross for our sins... He arose and lives in our world today... and because He lives, our life is worth living... and most of all, that we all can be saved by God's grace if only we believe in Him (John 3:16).

May God continue to bless this precious little child as she walks in His light and love.

Have a GREAT day and may all your Saturdays be special.

Christ Arose

Low in the grave He lay,
Jesus my Savior,
Waiting the coming day,
Jesus my Lord!

Refrain:
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph oer His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Vainly they watch His bed,
Jesus my Savior;
Vainly they seal the dead,
Jesus my Lord!

Death cannot keep its Prey,
Jesus my Savior;
He tore the bars away,
Jesus my Lord!

He Lives

I serve a risen Savior,
He's in the world today;
I know that He is living,
Whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy,
I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him
He's always near.

Chorus:
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and He talks with me
Along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives:
He lives within my heart.

In all the world around me
I see His loving care,
And tho my heart grows weary
I never will despair;
I know that He is leading
Thro' all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing
Will come at last.

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian,
Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs
To Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him,
The help of all who find,
None other is so loving,
So good and kind.

Because He Lives

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict'ry,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
