Subject: Homeward Bound

Dear Ones,

Leavon and I try to take a little 2.5-mile walk every morning, but this morning she left home early to drive a friend to her doctor's appointment at a clinic some 35 miles away.

So, all alone, I stumbled out the door in my walking clothes to find some real yucky weather awaiting me.... foggy, cloudy and rainy. I promptly turned around and went back inside to retrieve my old rain jacket.

As I went merrily along my way, the light sprinkles now and then didn't bother me much at all. But, just before I reached the halfway point in my walk, guess what happened? You're right.... the sky opened up and the real rain began to fall. I quickly donned my jacket and pulled the hood up over my head. Folks driving down the road saw me in this predicament and drove on... shaking their heads.

I was feeling a bit bemused at myself for believing the weatherman when he said only 40% chance of rain today. But, I was, also, questioning my sanity for continuing on my walk in such conditions when I could have turned around earlier and headed home. Those folks driving by shaking their heads in disbelief didn't help the situation either.

But, you know what? When I reached the halfway point, turned around and headed home, my attitude all changed. I knew when I reached home; I would find warmth, concern, compassion, and love. Suddenly, the rain didn't matter any more... for now I was "homeward bound"!!

My thoughts now began to expand to life itself and how we deal with the adversities we face in our journey through life. "Into each life, some rain must fall." But, I must tell you, as I face the final legs of that journey, I no longer have the concerns I had earlier in life. I take what God deals out, thank Him, and continue on. My attitude changed from the days of my youth because, now, my faith tells me that I am "homeward bound". And, when I reach that home, the warmth, concern, compassion and love I receive will be a thousand fold.

Have a GREAT day and may God bless you and yours!!

Don
