2005 GIG HARBOR GOLF CLUB JUNIOR PROGRAM
Gig Harbor’s Jr. Golf Program is recommended for children and young adults ages 7-17. The 18 holers will play Thursdays June 30th, July 7th, July 14th, July 21st, July 28th , with a two-day tournament on July 28th or 31st and August 1st. The 9, 6 and 3 holers and beginner groups will play Mondays, June 27th, July 11th, July 18th, July 25th. The tournament is on Monday August 1st along with an awards banquet for all golfers and their families.
** TO PLAY IN THE TOURNAMENT ONE MUST PAY AND BE REGISTERED IN THE JR. GOLF PROGRAM AND PLAY AT LEAST 3 TIMES (WILL INCLUDE WJGA TOURNAMENTS, Tournament Scores must be turned in to Chris Frey for verification)
REQUIREMENTS
1. Pants or shorts with pockets are a must. Appropriate golf attire is required; do not substitute soccer shoes for golf shoes, sneakers are fine.
2. All Junior Golfers must have their own set of clubs and a bag. Sharing of clubs will not be allowed.
NOTE: It really hinders a junior golfer to try to learn and play with clubs that do not fit. Each golfer must also
carry a divot repair tool, tees, ball mark and extra ball.
3. Appropriate behavior is mandatory. Showing good sportsmanship, respect and following directions of adult volunteers is expected. Foul language, throwing of clubs, rude comments and cheating are unacceptable and will result in Suspension of play or possible expulsion from the Jr. Golf Program.
LEVELS OF PLAY
Level 1B: Beginners will have basic instruction for 45 min. during weeks 1,2 and 3. 15 min. at the driving range working on full swings. 15 min. on chipping and 15 min. on putting. Rules and etiquette will also be covered. During weeks 4 and 5 beginners will also have instruction on the golf course. They will play 3 holes from the 150 yd markers with both scrambles and individual scoring. Each group will have an adult walker with them.
Level 1: 3 Holers returning from last year will have 45 minutes of golf instruction and play 3 holes from 150 yd markers with individual scoring. Each group will have an adult walker with them.
Goal: Have fun, learn basic rules and score 20 or less in 1 hr for 2 weeks.
Level 2: 6 Holers will have golf instruction for 45 minutes and play 6 holes from the forward red tees. Each group will have an
adult walker with them.
Goal: Score 40 or less in 1 ˝ hrs for 2 weeks. Jr. Golfers begin to keep their own scores.
Level 3: 9 Holers will have golf instruction for 45 min. and play 9 holes from the red tees. Each group will have an adult walker with them.
Goal: Score 50 or less in 2 hrs or less. Each golfer keeps his own score and knows PGA rules of golf.
Level 4: 18 Holers – 4A and 4B will play 18 holes from appropriate tees in 4 hrs or less. 18 Holers will keep their score independently. The 18 hole groups play on Thursdays. There is ˝ hr of instruction before they play.
Advancement to next level requires meeting the current levels goals for the first two weeks or at the discretion of the Golf Pro. No change in level will be made after the third week of the program. These levels are not intended to create an environment for competition, but are benchmarks for an individual to set goals for him/herself. It also allows similar abilities to play together. There will be prizes and/or tournaments each week.
Thursday Schedule
18 Hole - 4A and 4B Meet at 11:30 am for instruction, 12:00 pm course play
Monday Schedule
9 Hole – Level 3 8:00 am instruction, 8:45 course play
6 Hole – Level 2 9:00 am instruction, 9:45 course play
3 Hole – Level 1 10:00 am instruction, 10:45 course play
Level 1B 11:00 am instruction, course play to follow during weeks 4 & 5
Please arrive at least 20 minutes early. Check in at the clubhouse patio, sign up for the next week and then start your warm up and practice. Range balls will be available at the driving range.

The success of the program is dependent on our volunteers. Walkers are needed each Monday (golf knowledge is not mandatory). If you cannot help in this area we would appreciate your help with the bulletin board, banquet, taking photos, etc.
