Greetings!! My name is Jack Proffitt. I am a retired "doodlebugger" (Oil Exploration Geophysicist) and a Cajun by choice though not by birth! We live amid beautiful surroundings near Sunset and Grand Coteau, Louisiana. We are just off Interstate 49, 10 miles north of its intersection with Interstate 10 in Lafayette, LA. Our home is on the coteau (French for ridge) that gives Grand Coteau its name. The Grand Coteau is a remnant of a natural levee formed by an ancient channel of the Mississippi River.
We enjoy the color in early summer. The view is of the south side of the house, looking west. The small green building in the background is where I keep my favorite toy - my little Kubota tractor - along with a lot of other equipment it takes to maintain our nearly 5 acre homestead. A large vegetable garden and fruit orchard are behind the house. |
This is what our house looks like in winter, looking west across the pond. Note the fishing pier nestled beneath the trees in the right middle. And that's my boat on the bank to the left of the pier. The pond contains lots of bass, bream and sac-a-lait (that's Cajun for white crappie!) Great blue herons, egrets and wood ducks are regular visitors. |
