spent most of the day touring around and on the Brisbane River, named, like the city, after its first Governor Thomas Brisbane.
Approx 25 years ago the City took a number of major steps related to reconfiguring the entire city. They decided to relocate the entire port down river to an island just outside the mouth. Then they past several building code changes which provided that all new building built along the river had to (1) have parking facilities underground and (2) had to have sidewalk/bike path facilities on the River side.
As a result of that and further adjustments made to get ready for the Commonwealth games held in Brisbane in 1982, the city and riverfront have undergone significant renewal and regrowth. Hopefully some of this can be seen in the river picture sequences posted today.
