Lamb is prominent on the menu here, and in the river pictures you may have noticed the long brick buildings and seen the signs wool store. Australia, because of its climate is a major sheep raising country.
This afternoon Bill and I went to see an Australian Wool Shed at Ferney, about 16km (7 miles) out from Brisbane. See the pictures for most detail. Notice especially the dogs, all various types of Border Collie. They are very well trained and can herd and guide the sheep upon voice command from the dog handler. Interestingly, most of the herding by the dog is done WITHOUT barking. Note also that the dogs frequently climb up on the backs of the sheep and sit or ride. There are also some shots of the various breeds of sheep raised in Australia and a shearing sequence.
Overall the trip was interesting because of these displays, but the Woolshed itself probably couldn't count as a major highlight. I came away with the impression that this attraction was overblown and definitely for benefit of tourists. I was reminded of the "See Rock City... road signs" type of attraction.
