KATE ZINN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Mark your
calendars for July 6th from noon until 7pm at the Solon Springs Community
Center. It will be the first in a series of events to be held in
memory of Kate Zinn and to create an endowment scholarship fund to benefit a
St. Croix High School student interested in the field of education. A
benefactor has assured matching dollar for dollar the community can raise up
to $10,000 and have until March 23, 2003 to achieve this goal.
So, I am going to need help...salads, hot dishes, buns, plates...a crew.
Kate Zinn
was an intricate part of this community for over 20 years. School
board president, PTA, Girl Scouts, CF bike-a-thon, co-owner of Small World
with Gitzi Wicklund. Her focus was solely children and I think it
would be more than appropriate to pass on her passions to another leader
that shares her goals.
Sadly, she
lost her battle to cancer on March 23, 2001, to fragile to fight any longer.
The scholarship will keep that spirit alive.
Ted Lalonde
graciously did the poster work, Toni Gotelaere donated an incredible quilt
called, "Geese over Africa." Chances will be sold for $1 each and
winner announced at the next event on November 23 for the rummage,
collectable sale. I am truly grateful for these donations knowing they
never met her. All proceeds will go directly into the fund.
