FULL EMPIRE  RULES

 


THE RACE:

    

 The race will feature two classes: six-dog and eight-dog.  Both classes will race a loop beginning and ending in Solon Springs.  This procedure will be repeated on the second day.  The six-dog class will travel approximately 24 miles each day and the eight-dog class will travel approximately 36 miles each day.

 

RECREATIONAL CLASS

   

    The race will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will feature two-dog and a four-dog class on a 3 1/2 mile trail.  Trophy Awards.  Bring proof of vaccinations for vet check.  Driver's meeting at 12:30 p.m. Registration Fee $10.  Pre-registration encouraged.

 

 

THE ENTRY FEE:

    

    Entry fees are $80 for the six-dog and $100 for the eight-dog class.  Additional $25 fee will be charged for registrations postmarked during week before the race.

 

THE RULES

 

    Complete rules will be mailed before race week. Recreation Class and 6 &  8 Dog Class All have the same immunization requirements. 

Bring proof of rabies, distemper, parvo and corona vaccination.  Adequate brake, brush bow, snow hook and/or snub line, snowshoes and bindings, tool capable of cutting cable/rope gangline, booties (1 set for each dog), first aid kit (ace bandage and pressure bandages) and sled bag.

CANCELLATIONS:

 

     Full Refund -    Two weeks before race/Half Refund - one week before race.  Reschedule date to come

   

 

 

THE WINNERS:

 

    There will be a presentation of awards in the Town Hall following the arrival of the last finisher on Sunday.  Purse pay down will be 10 places based on the number of entries in each class.  Trophy awards to top three competitors.  RECREATIONAL CLASS:   The race will be held at 2pm on Saturday and will feature one/two-dog (2Mi.) and four-dog (4mi.) classes.  Trophy Awards.  Bring proof on vaccinations for vet check.  Registration Fee $10.  Pre-registration encouraged.

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

 

COME JOIN THE FUN

 

The public is invited and encouraged to visit the mushers and take part both days.  There are excellent photo opportunities along the trail.  Souvenirs and refreshments will be available.

 

 

 

 

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

 

The Empire will run near an area originally logged in the early 1900's by the Empire Logging Company of Winona, Minnesota.  This vast area west of Solon Springs is still called the "Empire" today. Sled dog racing on the Empire Trail began in 1988.
