Bless And Do Not Curse
Devotional Example
[ Back ] [ Up ] [ Next ]
"With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we
curse men, who have been made in God's likeness.
Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing.
My brothers, this should not be."
James 3:9-10 (NIV)
There is an infectious disease in our society
and it is spreading rapidly. It is the horrible big C...
CURSING
It is a sin against the second commandment...
You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God.
Psalm 111:10 says....
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.
Each day we're given a choice a blessing for the day or a curse.
The Bible warns us that we are to fear and love God so that we do not
curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name.
We are to call upon God's name in prayer, praise, and thanksgiving.
The LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name.
Exodus 20:7
Each and every day it seems we are exposed to people misusing
God's name. We are not to speak God's name uselessly or carelessly.
We are also not to speak evil about God or mock him.
Jesus was mocked when he was hanging on the cross.
Matthew 27:39-43
When the people cried out to Pilate to crucify Jesus
they cursed not only Jesus, but their children for they said...
"His blood be on us and on our children."
Matthew 27:25
Psalm 109:17-18, 20 says...
As he loved cursing, so let it come to him; as he did not delight in
blessing so let it be far from him. As he clothed himself with cursing
as with his garment, so let it enter his body like water and like oil
into his bones...
Let this be the LORD's reward to my accusers, and to those
who speak evil against my person.
When God created man, he made him in his own image.
So if we curse or swear at someone, we are cursing
God for he is the creator of us all.
Choosing to walk away from any person or programming like movies
or television that would misuse God's name honours him and brings a
blessing to us. It also protects us from having those curses brought
into our own bodies and possessions.
God may put someone in our path
that curses us as a test of our love and devotion to
him and his commandments.
In Matthew 26:31-75
Jesus warned his disciples that they would all be made to stumble
that night, because they would fear letting others know that
they were followers of him. Jesus told Peter that he would
deny him 3 times before the rooster crowed.
Instead of praying that God would help him not to be led into
temptation, he proudly said that even if he had to die, he would
not deny Jesus. Later on that night when he was questioned by
a woman about being one of Jesus' followers, he began to curse and
swear trying to prove that he wasn't a Christian.
After he did this 3 times, the rooster crowed and
he remembered Jesus' warning to him.
He was sorry and wept bitterly in repentance.
"Blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."
Matthew 11:6
God promises to bless us if we are not ashamed
of standing up for our faith in Him.
In Matthew 5:44-45 Jesus said...
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you,
do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who
spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be
sons of your Father in heaven...
Jesus knows how it feels when someone curses us
or makes fun of us, and that is why he asks us to
forgive them, as he has forgiven us when we fail.
By asking for mercy for the person, we also gain
a blessing for ourselves.
The only time we are permitted to swear by God's name
is when we are in court, in taking an oath of office,
wedding vows or baptism.
In these cases we are swearing we will keep our vow.
What we swear, must always be done in truth and faithfulness.
When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate
himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do
everything he said.
Numbers 30:2
Fear the LORD your God, serve Him only and take your oaths in His name.
Deuteronomy 6:13
When a person vows to be faithful to their spouse in sickness and
in health until they die, they must be faithful to those vows.
Parents must be faithful to the vow they make to God when they
have their child baptized, for they are promising to raise that
child with a Christian education and take them to church.
We are also not use satanic arts by God's name.
Joining with or seeking the aid of people who practice witchcraft, cast
spells, sorcery, horoscopes, physic hotlines or fortune telling
are practices that worship Satan and anger God.
Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be
defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 19:31
What is lying and deceiving by God's name?
This is teaching a false doctrine and saying that a teaching is
God's word when it is not. It is also covering up an unbelieving heart
or a sinful life by pretending to be a Christian.
All churches are not necessarily Christian churches, just like all
people who go to church will not go to heaven.
For example if a person says they are a Christian, but continue
to live with a person or have sexual relations, outside the institution
of marriage they are trying to deceive the world,
by saying that they think that God understands and it's acceptable.
The same happens when a person goes to communion without
preparing his heart in repentance and willingness to change
their life style or be forgiving toward another person.
For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment
to himself, not discerning the LORD's body. For this reason many are weak
and sick among you...For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be
judged. 1 Corinthians 11:29-31
God is a loving and merciful Father and he wants everyone to be
saved and know the truth. It's the truth found in His word that
sets us free from the evil curses of this world. God loves for
his children to come to him in prayer, praise, and thanksgiving.
He sent Jesus to live the perfect life on this earth and to die for our
sins on the cross. He knows how hard it is to be hurt by the cruel
words of others. The scriptures were left for us to learn from and
to know the truth, so we do not have to struggle so in this life.
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you,
and you will honor Me. Psalm 50:15
Give thanks to God the Father for everything,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20
